Evil Geniuses Are Unexpectedly Invited to Summit 8

BeyondTheSummit surprised the viewers by announcing that Evil Geniuses were invited to take part in the upcoming Dota Summit 8 as a ninth team.

Previously if was supposed that the tournament’s line-up will consist of eight teams. With the reveal of the ninth participating team, BeyondTheSummit also announced the format of the LAN-finals, which is quite unique.

The tournament will feature 3 stages: Group Stage, Wild Card and Final Four. In the Group Stage nine participating teams will be divided into three groups, in which they will play in a round-robin format with each victory granting one point. The teams placed first in their groups will advance to Final Four. The teams placed second in their groups will make it to Wild Card, where they will be joined by a single team with the highest amount of points across top-3 teams. The Wild Card will decide the last spot at Final Four. The final stage is a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three semifinals and best-of-five grand finals.

The main event of Dota Summit 8 will be held on December 13-17 in Los-Angeles. The tournament is organized by BeyondTheSummit studio and features a $300,000 prize pool.
